About 5.9 inches long and 0.8 inch in diameter.
Brush clay out of the carving while it is soft, rinse briefly and let the roller dry away from heat so the wood does not crack.
Soft to medium-soft clay takes the deep carving best. Leather-hard clay grabs only a faint impression, and very wet clay lets the claw or scale edges blur.
Wood releases better than most materials, but deep carving can still hold clay. Dust with cornstarch or roll through plastic wrap, then brush the grooves clean after each slab.
Yes. Roll the pattern while the slab is flat, let it firm a little, then cut and join your mug or tile. At about 5.9 in long, one pass covers a strip nearly 6 in wide.
A breaking glaze thins over the raised carving and pools in the deep lines, so bark, leaf or scale patterns read clearly. Wiping underglaze in and sponging the high points works too.
