A bat lets you lift a freshly thrown piece off the wheel without touching it, so wide or soft forms keep their shape while they firm up.

Lightly dampen the bat before throwing and cut the piece free with a wire once it is done. The absorbent surface then helps the base release as it dries.

About this tool

With a bat system you keep one outer bat pinned to the wheel and swap in a fresh inner bat for each pot. Lift the finished piece out on its inner bat, set it aside to firm up, and drop in the next one. No re-centering a whole new bat.
