Not if the clay is soft leather-hard. Twist the stainless edge as you press so the plug lifts out cleanly; on wet clay the hole smears, and on dry clay the rim chips.
Rinse off clay before it dries, wipe the tools dry and store them dry so steel parts do not rust.
