Wrap the form in newspaper or thin plastic before wrapping the slab, then slide the form out.
Once the seam is joined and the clay has stiffened a little, twist the form gently and slide it out by the turned handle. If the cup is still very soft, wait so it keeps its round shape.
Yes, the cylinder is made for wrapping clay slabs. Pick a diameter between 2.5 and 3.7 in, and remember the fired cup will come out smaller than the form because clay shrinks.
