A fan brush holds a lot of glaze and lays it down in wide, even strokes with fewer brush marks, so you cover a pot quickly and evenly.

Rinse glaze out before it dries, then smooth the mixed animal hair back into a fan. Dry it flat or head down, and keep the lacquered handle out of standing water so the finish lasts.
It is better to dedicate it to one. This brush holds a lot of liquid, so it keeps more residue than a small brush, and that residue can tint a pale glaze later.
Most brushing glazes want two to three coats on bisque, but check your jar. On a bowl or platter, brush each coat in one direction and let it dry before crossing over it.
