Bee and Butterfly Clay Texture Roller

Three: Butterfly, Bee, and Bee and Flower. Choose one from the style options.

Use soft clay that still holds its shape. The small wings and flower petals need a deep press to read clearly, and clay that is too wet will smear the fine lines of the insects.

Dust the slab with a little cornstarch before rolling. If the tiny bee bodies clog with clay, brush them out with a soft brush once the clay is dry rather than poking at them while wet.

Yes. Roll the pattern on the flat slab, let it stiffen a bit, then wrap it into a mug, planter or tile set. Hold the wall from the plain side so the butterflies stay sharp.

Brush underglaze into the pattern, then sponge it off the raised areas so the wings and petals stay outlined. A clear or lightly breaking glaze on top keeps the small details visible.
