About 1/8 to 1/4 in. Thicker slabs may not release cleanly.
Dust the inside lightly with cornstarch or press through a thin layer of plastic wrap, and let the slab firm slightly first. Then push the plunger to release the mushroom.
Yes, for small pieces like ornaments and earrings, as long as the clay is soft and smooth. Grogged or stiff clay may blur the mushroom detail, so test a scrap first. The PLA plastic should stay away from heat.
